Intercession

So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

John 11:41-43

Imagine what it must have been like to be standing outside when the stone was rolled away and Lazarus came walking out.  Would you believe Jesus was the Son of God then?  Even back then people needed to see to believe.  Fortunately for them, Jesus could perform miracles that could be seen with their own eyes.

Obviously Jesus is not walking on the earth today to perform brilliant miracles for everyone to see, so how then as Christians can we help people who need to see to believe, believe in God?

So often we cry out for God to help us and he does often perform miracles in our lives and as Christians we should not keep these miracles to ourselves.  We often think oh no one will ever believe that actually happened so I can’t possibly share it with anyone.  Sometimes if we share a story of how God has worked in our lives we can trigger something in a person that says hey maybe this God IS real.

Once a month at St. George’s they do a “Good News” time where people can share something good that has happened to them.  Often it is the children saying how they got a good grade or their favourite sports team won but every now and then you hear amazing stories of something God has done.  It is often the prayers that have been prayed that have been answered with miracles.

God hears us every time we cry out to him whether it be with thanksgiving or neediness.  He doesn’t always answer our prayers with miracles but when he does keep it close to your heart and share it with those around you so they too can see that God IS real to each and every one of us.

Dear Lord,

We thank you that you can still perform miracles today in all of our lives.  We thank you for hearing us every time we cry out to you.  We pray that when you work in our lives we can use it to show others who need to see to believe that you are alive in us.  Amen.
